For over thirty years Stephen Steinbeiser served as Director of Music and Liturgy for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work included planning and accompanying all major events: Sunday and daily liturgies, retreats, memorials ceremonies, academic convocations and graduations for each of the professional schools (liberal arts, law, pharmacy, business, music, etc.)

He established and directed the Duquesne University Chapel Choir who helped lead large Diocesan events and performed for a myriad of community outreach projects, including singing for the maximum-security prisoners at the Allegheny County jail and caroling at Pittsburgh’s Christmas crèche for the annual Light Up Night.

Stephen’s duties at Duquesne entailed recruiting and training musicians, cantors, instrumentalists and other liturgical ministers while arranging and writing music for events. In addition, Stephen served as the National Pastoral Musician Association chair for the campus ministry section. He still travels extensively as he directs and accompanies retreats and events for religious communities including the Redemptorist priests (Denver province), Felician Sisters, Sisters of Charity (Seton Hill), Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Spiritan Fathers and Brothers who administer Duquesne University.

Stephen currently still serves in a variety of liturgical capacities in the Pittsburgh and Greensburg Dioceses. He recently re-released his Christmas CD “Ave Maria: The Greeting” on its 10th anniversary and published an original song and video for the Pittsburgh 200th Bicentennial celebration, part of a fund raising effort for Pittsburgh Catholic Charities.
